Field Trip to Villa Catalana

Our chapter had the opportunity to visit the gardens at Villa Catalina, owned by Burl and Cindy Mostul. The gardens contain many different styles including desert, tropical, border, herb, rock, grasses and Mediterranean gardens.

The chapter provided refreshments to enjoy on Burl's beautiful patio before giving us the guided tour of his gardens.

Burl Mostul, Ph.D., founded Rare Plant Research in 1987 while he was still a practicing clinical psychologist. The nursery started out as a hobby that eventually grew into a research nursery. At that time, the nursery focused on the discovery, propagation and publication of journal articles of rare and endangered plants.

In the last ten years Burl’s focus is on seeking out new plants from around the world and developing new hybrids for gardeners. His latest project, with wife Cindy’s help, has been to construct Villa Catalina on their property near Oregon City, Oregon.

Thank you Burl for sharing your wonderful gardens and opening your greenhouses to our Chapter !
